معرفی
Prof. MEHMET BİLGEN is a full Professor in the Department of Field Crops at Akdeniz University, Faculty of Agriculture. He has been a core academic member since 1996, progressing through the ranks from Research Assistant to Professor in 2016. His research spans agricultural sciences, agronomy, forage crops, and the application of remote sensing and bioinformatics in plant sciences.
Education:
- Doctorate (1996), Cukurova University, Department of Field Crops
- Postgraduate (1991), Cukurova University, Department of Field Crops
- Undergraduate (1987), Cukurova University, Department of Field Crops
Research Interests: Prof. Bilgen’s work emphasizes forage crops, seed physiology, nutrient monitoring via spectral reflectance, and bioinformatics tools for genetic analysis. His studies explore crop responses to environmental stress, bee plants, and sustainable rangeland management. He has developed software for DNA repeat mining and epigenetic analysis.
Research Trends: His recent publications focus on using remote sensing to estimate nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium in forage crops like alfalfa and sheep fescue. He also investigates heavy metal effects on germination and the epigenetic regulation of plant genes. A recurring theme is the integration of computational and field methods in agricultural research.
Scientific Awards:
- International Scientific Publications Incentive Program, TÜBİTAK (2014)
- International Scientific Publications Incentive Program, TÜBİTAK (2012)
- International Scientific Publications Incentive Program, TÜBİTAK (2008)
Advising and Grants: He has supervised at least 8 graduate students (5 postgraduate, 3 doctorate). His research has been funded by TÜBİTAK and higher education institutions, including projects on epigenetic methylation in plants, mera rehabilitation, and medicinal-aromatic plants. He has served on thesis juries and as a peer reviewer for national and international journals.
Labs and Teams: While no dedicated lab is named, his collaborative work with researchers like Y. Özyiğit, M. Karaca, and A. G. İnce suggests active participation in interdisciplinary teams focusing on plant genomics, bioinformatics, and sustainable agriculture.
