Professor MC Schraefel is a faculty member at the University of Southampton's Electronics and Computer Science (ECS) department, part of the Faculty of Physical Sciences and Engineering. Her research focuses on human-centered technologies, including health resilience, IoT privacy, wearable devices, and sustainable design. She leads several projects funded by EPSRC and the Royal Academy of Engineering, such as makeNormalBetter and AutoTrust.
Her work integrates interdisciplinary approaches, combining computer science with healthcare, engineering, and social sciences. Notable contributions include advancements in sensor technology for health monitoring, privacy frameworks for IoT systems, and collaborative tools for virtual teams. She has received a Global research award from the Royal Academy of Engineering.
Professor Schraefel currently supervises three PhD students in fields like human-computer interaction and IoT. She actively engages in external roles, including speaking on topics like creativity in health and inbodied interaction principles.
