M.E. Luka is an Assistant Professor of Arts, Media, and Culture Management at the University of Toronto Scarborough (UTSC). They hold a research fellowship at the University of Alberta’s Just Powers and Future Energy Systems initiatives and serve as a Research Associate at York University’s Sensorium Centre for Digital Arts & Technology. Additionally, they are a Visiting Scholar at Ryerson University’s Ted Rogers School of Management and a part-time faculty member at York University and Mount Saint Vincent University.
With a PhD and extensive experience in digital media, arts, and culture, Luka’s research focuses on creative industries, social media ethics, climate change and energy transition, and intermedia art. They co-authored a notable article on Big Data ethics published in Social Media + Society (2018) and led interdisciplinary projects like the Archive/Counter Archive SSHRC grant ($2.5M over six years).
Luka is a recipient of the Banting Postdoctoral Fellowship and has contributed to grants such as the SSHRC Connection Grant. Their work often bridges academic research with creative practice through groups like the Narratives in Space and Time Society. They have held leadership roles on boards such as Arts Nova Scotia and the Cultural Human Resources Council, advocating for cultural policy and community engagement.
