M. Gregg Bloche is the Carmack Waterhouse Professor of Health Law, Policy, and Ethics at Georgetown University Law Center, where he also co-directs the Urban Institute–Georgetown Law Project on Health Equity. He holds concurrent degrees in law (Yale Law School) and medicine (Yale School of Medicine), with a psychiatry residency at Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center. His research focuses on health law, policy, and bioethics, particularly addressing healthcare equity, social determinants of health, and the intersection of policy with medical practice. Bloche has advised governments and non-profits globally and served as a health policy advisor to President Obama’s 2008 campaign and transition team. His work appears in leading law reviews (e.g., Texas Law Review, Minnesota Law Review) and medical journals like the New England Journal of Medicine. He is a frequent media commentator and has authored books including The Hippocratic Myth.
His awards include a Guggenheim Fellowship and a Robert Wood Johnson Investigator Award. Bloche’s interdisciplinary initiatives aim to reduce healthcare disparities and integrate health into economic/environmental policies. He has held prior appointments at institutions like the University of Chicago Law School and Harvard School of Public Health.
