M. Ann Easterbrooks is a Professor in the Eliot-Pearson Department of Child Study & Human Development at Tufts University’s School of Arts and Sciences. Her research focuses on developmental risk/resilience, child maltreatment, maternal depression, and adolescent parenting. She leads large-scale evaluations of early childhood intervention programs, including the Massachusetts Healthy Families Evaluation (HFE), a randomized controlled trial assessing home-visiting services for young parents.
Education: PhD in Developmental Psychology (University of Michigan, 1982), MS (University of Wisconsin, 1978), BA (University of Washington, 1976).
Research Interests: Her work integrates bioecological frameworks to examine parent-child relationships, contextual supports, and program effectiveness. Key projects include longitudinal follow-ups of HFE participants to assess long-term effects on child development, school readiness, emotion regulation, and family dynamics. She also explores internationally adopted toddlers’ adaptation and feeding practices in families with children with intellectual disabilities.
Grants & Collaborations: Principal investigator on grants from the CDC, JPB Foundation, and Massachusetts Department of Early Education. Collaborates with multidisciplinary teams across universities and agencies.
Teaching: Supervises doctoral research, dissertations, and thesis projects, as well as courses on resilience and special topics in child development.
Labs/Teams: Leads the Toddler Development Project and collaborates on initiatives like the Healthy Outcomes from Positive Experiences (HOPE) study.
