Lynton Jaques is an Honorary Associate Professor at the Australian National University's Research School of Earth Sciences. He previously served as Chief Scientist at Geoscience Australia, leading initiatives like the Australian Energy Resource Assessment (2010) and chairing the 34th International Geological Congress (2012). His research focuses on diamonds, lamproites, kimberlites, and carbonatites, with an emphasis on their petrology, geochemistry, and mantle dynamics.
Research interests include the genesis of Australian diamonds, the relationship between lamproites/kimberlites and lithospheric mantle, and rare metal deposits linked to carbonatites. His work has contributed to understanding mantle processes, magmatic evolution, and resource exploration in regions like the Kimberley and Papua New Guinea.
Key awards include the Public Service Medal (PSM). His interdisciplinary approach bridges geology, geochemistry, and petrology, with over 120 publications on mantle-derived rocks and their geochemical signatures.
