Lynsey Drew is a Senior Lecturer in Mental Health Nursing at the University of Sunderland, specializing in the BSc (Hons) Mental Health Nursing Practice. She joined the university in 2018, previously working as a dementia nurse specialist in an acute hospital setting. Her roles include module leadership for Foundations of Nursing Practice and Practice Placement for Year 2 students, as well as personal tutoring and dissertation supervision.
Her expertise focuses on caring for older adults with complex mental health needs, particularly dementia and delirium in acute hospital environments. She is passionate about training healthcare staff in caring for patients with these conditions. Lynsey has extensive clinical experience, having worked in inpatient units, community services, and liaison psychiatry since 2004.
She teaches across multiple modules in the Mental Health Nursing program and contributes to the development of clinical skills and evidence-based practice. Her research interests align with her clinical background, emphasizing geriatric mental health and improving care delivery in acute settings.
