Lynnette Sievert

Lynnette Sievert is a Professor in the Department of Anthropology at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. Her research focuses on biological anthropology, with an emphasis on menopause, reproductive aging, and the evolutionary and cultural contexts of midlife health. She has conducted fieldwork globally, including in Mexico, Bangladesh, the UK, Slovenia, Paraguay, and Hawaii.

Key Findings: Her work highlights the role of physical activity, stress, and cultural contexts in menopausal symptomatology. Recent studies explore brown adipose tissue’s influence on hot flashes and the effects of lifestyle interventions on postpartum health. She has published widely on topics like menopause timing, hormonal biomarkers, and health disparities among migrant populations.

Labs/Teams: Affiliated with the Organismic & Evolutionary Biology program and the Institute for Applied Life Sciences (IALS) at UMass Amherst. Collaborates with interdisciplinary teams on global health projects.
