Lynne Perri is a Senior Lecturer and journalist-in-residence at American University's School of Communication (SOC). She holds dual roles as a senior professorial lecturer and former Managing Editor of the Investigative Reporting Workshop (2009–2024). Her academic contributions include course co-creation for election coverage and leadership in the AU-Politico Journalism Institute since its 2013 launch. Perri has taught courses in visual journalism, investigative reporting ethics, and news design, and has advised student projects during presidential primary coverage in New Hampshire.
Her research focuses on visual news presentation's impact on public understanding and the evolution of citizen media. She has led grants including a 2008 J-Lab initiative for citizen journalist training and a Ford Foundation-funded project on global public opinion visualization. Awards include AU's 2020 Outstanding Service and SOC's Inclusive Excellence recognition.
Professional service includes roles as an adjunct professor at Syracuse, Northwestern, and other institutions, plus workshops for The Washington Post and Knight Center. She previously held editorial leadership at USA TODAY and newspapers like The Tampa Tribune.
