Associate Professor Lyndsey Collins-Praino is an Associate Professor and Reader in the School of Biomedicine at the University of Adelaide, leading the Cognition, Ageing and Neurodegenerative Disease Laboratory (CANDL). She chairs the Research Committee of the School of Biomedicine and holds a PhD in behavioral neuroscience from the University of Connecticut, with postdoctoral training at Columbia University. Her research focuses on identifying biomarkers for cognitive decline in aging and neurodegenerative diseases, particularly Parkinson’s disease, traumatic brain injury (TBI), and dementia. She has secured over AUD$11 million in research funding and received prestigious awards including the 2016 South Australian Young Tall Poppy Award and national teaching accolades.
Her work emphasizes translational research, integrating 'bench-to-bedside' approaches to improve diagnostics and therapies. She advocates for patient and community engagement, leading science outreach programs like Science Alive and National Science Week. As an award-winning educator, she designs curricula and supervises HDR students, emphasizing neuroanatomy and neuroscience education. Her lab explores neuroinflammation’s role in disease progression and develops novel biomarkers, while also addressing ethical and societal impacts of neurodegenerative research.
