Brittany Child is a final-year PhD candidate in the School of Psychology at the University of Adelaide, affiliated with the Cognitive and Neural Sciences Lab. She holds the academic rank of Senior Tutor within the School. Her research focuses on the relationship between cognitive impairment and motor function in Parkinson’s disease, aiming to improve prognostic accuracy by linking motor symptom profiles to cognitive decline. She also investigates motor-cognitive dynamics in healthy aging and dopaminergic changes in neurodegenerative diseases.
Brittany has extensive teaching experience, including roles as a course tutor for undergraduate and honours level psychology courses (e.g., Research Methods and Statistics, Learning and Behaviour). She served as R Support Officer, developing online resources and facilitating statistical support for students, and created APA formatting modules for first-year students using Canvas. In 2022, she received the School of Psychology’s Excellence in Tutoring award.
Her research explores decision-making impairments in Parkinson’s and their connection to the basal ganglia model of action selection. Key collaborations include supervision by Dr. Irina Baetu, Associate Professor Lyndsey Collins-Praino, and Dr. Nathan Beu. She has presented posters at the 2019 Annual Florey Postgraduate Research Conference and the 28th Annual Meeting of the International Behavioral Neuroscience Society.
