Lydia Bleasdale is a Professor of Legal Education at the University of Leeds’ School of Law, part of the Faculty of Social Sciences. She holds leadership roles as Director of Community and Belonging, Co-Director of the Centre for Innovation and Research in Legal Education, and Acting Director of Employability (until December 2024). Her expertise spans student wellbeing, belonging, and legal education innovation.
She earned an LLB from the University of Leeds (2003) and an MSc in Criminology and Criminal Justice from Oxford (2004). Her research focuses on student resilience, identity, and wellbeing, including a seminal 2018 study on undergraduate resilience influencing Leeds’ academic tutoring policies. She co-edits the Law Teacher journal and leads international networks like Advancing Wellness in Law.
Her work emphasizes practical initiatives like the Welfare Rights project and StreetLaw, fostering student engagement with local communities. Awardees include the 2018 Oxford University Press Law Teacher of the Year and 2017 Stan Marsh Best Paper Prize. She balances academic rigor with community-focused teaching, advocating for supportive legal education environments.
Her current projects include a new LLB module on wellbeing and leadership and a Law Teacher special issue on legal education communities. She remains active in curriculum development, external reviewing, and consultancy on student education strategies.
