Michael Doherty

Professor Michael Doherty is a leading academic at Lancaster University's Law School, where he serves as

• Associate Head (Student Experience)
• World's first Professor of Legal Design (2024)

He previously chaired the Association of Law Teachers and maintains expertise in both substantive law and legal pedagogy.

Research focuses:

• Cultural barriers to design thinking in law
• Information design and the rule of law
• Human rights and environmental law
• Curriculum innovation through legal design
• Founding editor of the Legal Design Journal

His 2024 book, Transforming Higher Education Through Human-Centred Design, builds upon his 2021 edited collection on legal design and technology.
