Luís Álvarez Pousa (b. 1948) is a prominent Galician journalist and Professor of Specialized Journalism at the University of Santiago de Compostela's Faculty of Communication Sciences. He held the role of Director General of Culture for the Xunta de Galicia (1983–1985), driving cultural infrastructure projects. A prolific writer, he authored works on media identity, cultural journalism, and gender representation. His career spans decades in La Voz de Galicia, founding magazines like Teima and Tempos Novos, and leading media initiatives. Key awards include the Fernando Rey Honor Award (2003) and recognition for his cultural journalism.
Education: PhD in Contemporary History (University of Santiago de Compostela), Journalism (Complutense University of Madrid), and Theology. Active in audiovisual media, he directed TVG programs like Encontros and Extramuros. Served on editorial boards of Tempo Exterior and Criteria, and chairs the Galician Media Observatory. Known for composing the song A Sementeira, a Galician cultural landmark.
