Dr Luke Thompson is a writer, publisher, and Course Leader for the MA Professional Writing program at Falmouth University. He holds a PhD from the University of Exeter (2016), an MA from the University of Exeter Penryn Campus (2010), and a BA from the University of Wales, Lampeter (2006). His research focuses on poetry, publishing practices, human-animal relationships, environmental literature, and regional South West narratives.
Thompson’s creative work includes award-winning publications such as Domadomadomadoma-Blumblumblum: Conversations with Other Animals (2024) and Rhinoceros (2020). As founder of Guillemot Press (2016), he has championed innovative writing by both established and emerging poets, earning national acclaim. His work frequently explores intersections between ecology, publishing, and creative expression.
Key professional highlights include the Michael Marks Publishers’ Award (2017), Awen Medal (2017), and Falmouth University Staff Excellence Award (2017). Thompson’s outreach spans workshops at the Poetry School, exhibitions like Phonetic Ouija Board, and talks at institutions including the University of Exeter and BBC media appearances. His research has been supported by an AHRC grant (2012–2015).
Teaching focuses on professional writing practices, while his creative projects blend experimental forms with environmental themes. Thompson actively collaborates with artists and institutions across the UK, emphasizing community engagement and interdisciplinary creativity.
