معرفی
Dr. Luke Parry is a Reader in Environmental Social Science at the Lancaster Environment Centre (LEC), Lancaster University. His work bridges political ecology, public health, and environmental governance through quantitative research on health inequities, disaster resilience, and human-environment dynamics in tropical forests. He leads the Forest Citizenship for Disaster Resilience project (2022-2025), funded by the Trans-Atlantic Platform (T-AP) through ESRC (UK), NSF (USA), and FAPESP (Brazil).
Luke’s research program spans three interconnected themes: vulnerability to environmental change in Amazonia and Brazil’s Caatinga dry forests; human-environment relationships under climatic and land-use shifts; and wildlife harvest impacts on health and conservation. His empirical work includes quantifying climate-health linkages (e.g., rainfall extremes and adverse birth outcomes), mapping Amazonian food deserts, and analyzing wildmeat’s role in mitigating malnutrition. He collaborates with institutions such as the Federal University of Pará and the Mamirauá Institute, and has been an Editor of Conservation Letters since 2019.
His publications reveal a focus on using quantitative methods to address policy-relevant questions across environmental science, public health, and tropical conservation. Key sub-fields include bushmeat consumption, social vulnerability to climate shocks, forest citizenship, and the intersection of disaster resilience with education governance in remote tropical regions.
Scientific awards:
- ESRC Future Research Leader Fellow (2014–2017)
Luke supervises PhD students in the LEC Political Ecology Group and teaches geography courses including Geographies of Health and Conservation Biology.
