Dr Luke Munn is a Research Fellow in Digital Cultures & Societies at the University of Queensland. His work examines sociocultural impacts of digital technologies, including platform labor, far-right radicalization, and data infrastructures in Asia. He holds affiliations with the Centre for Digital Cultures & Societies and the ADM+S Centre. Munn has authored six books and numerous journal articles, often blending digital methods with media, race, and cultural studies perspectives.
Research interests span AI ethics, algorithmic labor dynamics, and digital hate ecosystems. Notable works include analyses of GrabBike drivers’ 'taming the algorithm,' critiques of AI ethics frameworks, and explorations of misinformation’s human dimensions. His interdisciplinary approach addresses technical systems through sociopolitical and environmental lenses.
Recent engagements include workshops on generative AI at OzCHI 2024 and a lecture on AI critique at Toyo University. He co-developed the 'Unmaking AI' toolkit to foster critical technical literacy. Munn’s work appears in venues like New Media & Society, AI & Society, and The Guardian.
