Prof Nicolas Suzor is a Professor of Law at Queensland University of Technology (QUT), affiliated with the Faculty of Business & Law and the School of Law. He is a Chief Investigator at QUT’s Digital Media Research Centre (DMRC) and the ARC Centre of Excellence for Automated Decision-Making and Society (ADM+S). He also serves on the Oversight Board, an independent body overseeing Facebook and Instagram content decisions. His work focuses on regulating networked societies, internet governance, automated systems, and digital copyright.
Education: PhD, Master of Laws, Bachelor of Information Technology, and Bachelor of Laws, all from QUT.
Research interests include platform governance, transparency in content moderation, AI ethics, and human rights online. He authored Lawless: The secret rules that govern our digital lives (2019) and has published extensively on digital rights and regulation. He is a recipient of QUT’s David Gardiner Teaching Award (2016) and a national Australian Award for Teaching (2017).
Awards include the QUT Outstanding Doctoral Thesis Award (2010). His research informs policy submissions on online safety, copyright reform, and AI governance. He leads projects on automated decision-making, platform accountability, and the societal impacts of digital technologies.
Labs/Teams: Digital Media Research Centre (DMRC), ADM+S, and the GenAI Lab. Collaborates on projects addressing AI ethics, misinformation, and algorithmic transparency.
