Tegan Cohen

Dr Tegan Cohen is a Research Fellow and Lecturer in the School of Law at Queensland University of Technology (QUT). Her research focuses on regulating digital platforms and artificial intelligence, privacy law, and the intersection of law with democracy and electoral politics. She holds a PhD from QUT, a Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice from Griffith University, and dual honours degrees in Law and Arts (International Relations/English Literature) from the Australian National University. Prior to academia, Tegan worked in the federal public service and practiced law at top-tier firms in Sydney and London, specializing in technology transactions and data privacy. She contributes to national policy debates through submissions to parliamentary committees and government inquiries, addressing issues like AI governance, housing tech regulation, and electoral integrity.

Her research interests include the democratic implications of privacy in data-driven political campaigns, the ethical use of AI in housing technology, and the evolving legal frameworks around digital privacy. Tegan has taught courses on intellectual property, data ethics, and regulating internet platforms. She is affiliated with QUT’s ARC Centre of Excellence for Automated Decision-Making and Society (ADM+S) and the DMRC GenAI Lab.
