Dr. Luis Perez is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Economics at Southern Methodist University's Dedman College of Humanities and Sciences. He received his Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Minnesota in 2024.
His research focuses on three primary areas: quantifying market power impacts on macroeconomics, understanding international productivity differences, and developing policy interventions for market failures. Current investigations examine monopoly/monopsony effects, TFP variations between countries, and optimal economic policy design.
Recent publications demonstrate a focus on empirical macroeconomics, with articles analyzing productivity trends in European economies, profit share evolution in the US, and economic efficiency during pandemics. Methodologies combine theoretical modeling with data-driven approaches to address contemporary economic challenges.
Dr. Perez teaches undergraduate courses on Latin American economies and graduate courses in macroeconomics and economic growth. He mentors graduate students and has presented research at major conferences including SED and SAET.
