Shubhdeep Deb is an Assistant Professor of Economics at Tilburg University, affiliated with the Tilburg School of Economics and Management (TiSEM) and the Department of Economics. He also serves as a Visiting Fellow at Erasmus University Rotterdam. He holds a PhD in Economics from Universitat Pompeu Fabra (2019–2024), an MA in Economics from Columbia University (2015–2016), and a B.A. (Honors) in Economics from University of Delhi (2009–2012). His research focuses on the intersection of macroeconomics and labor economics, particularly how market power influences labor market outcomes, wage inequality, and entrepreneurial dynamics.
Key research contributions include analyzing the role of market structure in wage stagnation, entrepreneurship decline, and income inequality. Notable publications include the Walras-Bowley Lecture: Market Power and Wage Inequality (Econometrica, 2024) and What Drives Wage Stagnation: Monopsony or Monopoly? (Journal of the European Economic Association, 2022). These works highlight the dual impact of monopoly and monopsony on wage dynamics and productivity.
