Ludvig Andre Munthe is a Professor in the Department of Immunology and Transfusion Medicine at the University of Oslo's Faculty of Medicine. He serves as Director of the K.G. Jebsen Centre for B cell malignancies and Research Manager at the Department of Immunology. His work focuses on immunology, hematology, and B cell malignancies, with significant contributions to understanding immune responses in various disease contexts.

Munthe's research spans immunology with particular emphasis on B cell malignancies, autoimmune diseases, and vaccine responses. His work examines B cell and T cell interactions in conditions like chronic lymphocytic leukemia, multiple myeloma, and autoimmune disorders. Recent research has focused extensively on immune responses to SARS-CoV-2 vaccination in immunocompromised patients, including those with inflammatory bowel disease, rheumatoid arthritis, and kidney transplant recipients. His laboratory investigates fundamental mechanisms of B cell receptor signaling, CD45 phosphatase activity, and CAR T cell therapies targeting B cell malignancies.
Analysis of his recent publications reveals a strong focus on clinical immunology, particularly how immunosuppressive therapies affect vaccine responses. His work spans from basic research on B cell signaling mechanisms to large prospective cohort studies examining real-world vaccine effectiveness in vulnerable populations. A significant portion of his recent work addresses the challenges of maintaining protective immunity in patients receiving immunosuppressive treatments, with particular attention to antibody and T cell responses following multiple vaccine doses.
Munthe leads the PRIMA center of excellence and the K.G. Jebsen Centre for B cell malignancies, where his research group employs both clinical and basic science approaches to understand B cell malignancies and immune responses. The team combines molecular biology, cellular immunology, and clinical research to develop better diagnostic and therapeutic approaches for patients with hematological malignancies and autoimmune disorders.
