Dr. Lucy Welsh is a Reader in Criminal Justice (Law) at the University of Sussex’s School of Law, Politics and Sociology. She specializes in criminal law, access to justice, and legal representation, with a focus on the impact of legal aid cuts and institutional reforms. Her research has been funded by organizations such as the Nuffield Foundation and UKRI. She directs the Sussex Law Clinics and has extensive experience as a criminal defense solicitor. Welsh is affiliated with multiple professional organizations, including the Socio-Legal Studies Association and the Society of Legal Scholars. Her work bridges academic research and policy consultation, with notable contributions to legal reform and practitioner engagement.
