Lucy Neave is an Associate Professor in the English and Creative Writing program at the Australian National University's School of Literature, Languages & Linguistics. She holds a BSc and BVSc (First Class Honours) from the University of Sydney, an MFA from Sarah Lawrence College, and a PhD and DCA from ANU and Western Sydney University respectively. Her research focuses on fiction writing processes, contemporary literature, and writing pedagogy. Neave has held visiting roles at the City University of New York (2024-2025) and New York University (2015, 2019-2020). She is the author of novels Believe in Me (2021) and Who We Were (2013), both award-winning titles. Her scholarly work examines narrative structure, transnational literary reception, and interdisciplinary authorial processes.
Her research interests bridge creative and critical practices, with recent projects analyzing crisis narratives in modern fiction and transnational publishing dynamics. She has received funding from the Australia Council for the Arts and was a Fulbright Scholar. Neave currently leads the Preparing MA Students for Authentic Learning project (2023–2024), focusing on pedagogical innovation in graduate creative writing programs.
