Kris Jansma is an Associate Professor and Director of Creative Writing in the English Department at SUNY New Paltz's College of Liberal Arts & Sciences. He is the author of acclaimed novels, including 'Why We Came to the City' (2016) and 'The Unchangeable Spots of Leopards' (2013), with works translated internationally.
His research explores narrative structures in contemporary fiction and creative non-fiction. Literary publications span prestigious journals including ZYZZVA, The Sun, and Salon.
Awards include the Prix du Livre de Voyage Urbain du Figaro (2017), Sherwood Anderson Foundation Fiction Award (2014), and PEN/Hemingway Prize Honorable Mention. He chairs the Creative Writing Program and serves on university committees including Diversity and Reappointment/Promotion/Tenure.
Teaching includes graduate instruction at Sarah Lawrence College and Columbia University. He writes the 'Unfinished Business' column exploring literary archives for Electric Literature.
