Dr. Lucy Elvis is a Lecturer in Philosophy at the University of Galway, where she also teaches in the Film School and Children's Studies Programme. She completed her PhD funded by the National University of Ireland Doctoral Scholarship in 2019, focusing on applying Gadamer's Philosophical Hermeneutics to the experience of architecture.
Her educational background includes a PhD and MA. She has further developed her expertise through qualifications with SAPERE (Society for the Advancement of Philosophical Enquiry and Reflection in Education), the IAPC (Institute for the Advancement of Philosophy for Children), and Dialogue Works.
Dr. Elvis's research spans two interconnected domains: Philosophy of Art and Culture, and Public Philosophy. Her work in the Philosophy of Art and Culture draws on her doctoral research, previous experience as a gallery director and visual arts curator, and her role as chairperson of TULCA Festival of Visual Arts. Her Public Philosophy work has developed through outreach initiatives and projects informed by Lipman Sharp pedagogy, particularly Philosophy for Children (P4C).
Her scholarly output demonstrates consistent engagement with philosophical inquiry (100% of her fingerprint), tragedy (66%), and moral philosophy (33%), with recent publications exploring tragic drama as educational stimulus, attentiveness in philosophical communities, and arts festival curation.
