Cynthia Nielsen is a Professor of Philosophy at the University of Dallas, specializing in hermeneutical philosophy, aesthetics, and social-political thought. She holds a PhD in Philosophy from the University of Dallas (2011) and has taught at institutions like Villanova University. Her research focuses on Hans-Georg Gadamer’s hermeneutics, particularly its applications to art, music, and cultural resistance.

- Research Interests: Gadamerian aesthetics, ethnomusicology, Ukrainian Studies, postcolonialism, and socio-political philosophy.
Her monograph Gadamer’s Hermeneutical Aesthetics (2022) explores art’s performative ontology through Gadamer’s lens, engaging with figures like Romare Bearden and Banksy. Recent work includes analyses of wartime ecocide, political historiography, and philosophical dialogue in contemporary conflicts.
Teaching spans undergraduate and graduate courses in hermeneutics, aesthetics, and continental philosophy. She has authored/co-edited multiple books and over 30 articles, emphasizing Gadamer’s relevance to modern art, music, and ethical discourse.
