Farhang Erfani is an Associate Professor in the Department of Philosophy and Religion at American University, where he has taught since 2005. He concurrently serves as a Research Associate at Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University in South Africa. His academic foundation includes a PhD from Villanova University and a BA from the University of the Pacific.
Erfani's research explores intersections of political theory, aesthetics, and existentialism, with emphases on:
- Continental Philosophy: Ricoeur, Sartre, Levinas, and Merleau-Ponty
- Political Dynamics: Democratic theory, globalization, and exile
- Aesthetic Inquiry: Philosophy of film (particularly Iranian cinema) and boredom
His publications analyze topics from Lacanian ethics in cinema to Machiavellian reinterpretations of Marx. Recent works exhibit sustained engagement with Ricoeurian hermeneutics and counter-narrative strategies.
