Lucy Davison

Professor Lucy Davison serves as Professor of Veterinary Clinical Genetics at the Royal Veterinary College (RVC), based in the Department of Clinical Science and Services at Hawkshead Campus. She holds an MRC Clinician Scientist Fellowship and maintains dual expertise as an RCVS and European Specialist in Small Animal Medicine, bridging human and veterinary medical research.

Education & Training:

• Graduate of Cambridge Veterinary School with intercalated degree in Pathology
• RCVS Certificate in Small Animal Medicine
• PhD in canine diabetes mellitus (RVC, supervised by Prof. Brian Catchpole)
• Residency in Small Animal Medicine at Queen's Veterinary School Hospital, Cambridge (achieved specialist status in 2006)
• Wellcome Trust Intermediate Clinical Fellowship at Cambridge Institute of Medical Research
• Wellcome Trust Veterinary Postdoctoral Fellowship at Oxford's Wellcome Centre for Human Genetics

Her research integrates human and veterinary medicine to investigate genotype-phenotype relationships in autoimmune disorders, particularly type 1 diabetes and related conditions. Using CRISPR-Cas9, single-cell RNA sequencing, and microbiome analysis, she examines the 16p13.13 genomic region across species. Veterinary work focuses on canine/feline endocrinology through the Canine Diabetes Genetics Partnership and clinical trials like REGLUCAT for diabetic remission.

Her leadership spans the UK Canine Diabetes Register and Archive and collaborative projects on insulinoma pathogenesis.

Professor Davison directs the Canine Diabetes Genetics Partnership consortium and maintains active collaborations with Oxford's Wellcome Centre for Human Genetics and Cambridge research groups through the Clinical Investigation Centre.
