Lucio Spaziante

Lucio Spaziante is an Associate Professor in the Department of the Arts at the University of Bologna, specializing in semiotics with focus on media, audiovisual language, music, and youth cultures. He directs the First Cycle Degree in Communication Sciences. His academic background includes a PhD in Semiotics from the University of Bologna under Umberto Eco and Paolo Fabbri, and a graduate degree in Semiotics from DAMS (University of Bologna).

Spaziante has taught at universities in Ferrara, Modena and Reggio Emilia, and IULM, while conducting research across Belgium, France, Great Britain, and the U.S. He served as Vice President of the AISS (Italian Association for Semiotic Studies) from 2009 to 2013. His research explores intersections between semiotics and cultural phenomena, including musicology, audiovisual aesthetics, and media semiotics.

His recent work addresses topics like podcast/TV series adaptation (Homecoming), music cover reinterpretations, and Eurovision's role in European identity. He frequently publishes in semiotics journals and edited volumes, analyzing media texts through interdisciplinary frameworks.
