Barbara Zanuttigh is a Full Professor of Coastal Hydraulics at the University of Bologna since 2022. She holds a PhD in Hydraulic Engineering from the Polytechnic of Milan and has over 20 years of post-doctoral experience in coastal engineering, marine renewables, and coastal flood defense strategies. Her research emphasizes interdisciplinary approaches, focusing on eco-friendly interventions, wave-structure interaction, and multi-use offshore platforms.
She has served as Editor-in-Chief of Coastal and Off-shore Engineering Journal and Frontiers of Built Environment, and sits on the editorial boards of Journal of Off-shore and Arctic Engineering (ASME), Scientific Reports (Nature), and Renewables and Sustainable Energy Reviews (Elsevier).
Her research spans coastal flooding risk mitigation, wave-energy harvesting, and innovative uses of offshore platforms. She coordinates major projects, including the PON-FESR funded PLACE initiative (€125,000), focusing on eco-sustainable repurposing of offshore structures. With over 150 publications and an h-index of 35, her work bridges numerical modeling, experimental studies, and real-world applications.
Teaching includes Hydraulics for Environmental Engineering and Maritime Hydraulics at the University of Bologna. She has held visiting roles at Delft University of Technology and collaborates internationally with academic and research institutions.
