Professor Peter Stansby holds the Osborne Reynolds Chair in Civil Engineering and Management at The University of Manchester. His expertise spans coastal hydrodynamics, computational fluid dynamics (CFD), and renewable energy systems. He leads research on tidal and wave energy technologies, including the Manchester Bobber wave energy converter and marine current turbines. His work contributes to the UN Sustainable Development Goals, particularly in clean energy (SDG7) and climate action (SDG13).

Research focuses on environmental flows, offshore engineering, and numerical modeling. He has led over 30 grants, including EPSRC projects on flood risk management and marine energy systems. Current projects include tidal turbine wake interactions and wave energy control strategies.
He is a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering and Institution of Civil Engineers. Awards include the 2023 IAHR Harold Jan Schoemaker Prize for contributions to hydraulic engineering.
