Lucie Byrne-Davis is Professor of Health Psychology at the University of Manchester, where she holds a position in the Division of Medical Education within the Faculty of Biology, Medicine and Health. She serves as Associate Dean for Internationalisation (Teaching & Learning) and co-leads the Health Workforce Group with Prof Jo Hart. A HCPC registered Health Psychologist, she is also co-investigator in Behavioural Research UK, the ESRC's leadership hub for behavioural research.
Her educational background includes a BSc(Hons) in Psychology from the University of Birmingham, MSc in Health Psychology from the University of Bath, and PhD in Health Psychology from the University of Bristol. She maintains professional affiliations with the Division of Health Psychology (British Psychological Society) and holds fellowships in the Academy of Social Sciences, Higher Education Academy, and European Health Psychology Society.
Byrne-Davis's research centers on translating health psychology to support behaviour change, with specific focus on health worker behaviours. Her work involves collaborating with numerous organizations including Advanced Life Support Group, Association of Anaesthetists of Great Britain and Ireland, and Tropical Health and Education Trust to co-create knowledge about changing professional practice. She has developed translational behavioural science materials such as The Cards for Change to help professionals learn and apply behaviour change techniques.
Her scientific achievements include the British Psychological Society Innovation in Practice Award (2020) and leadership in multiple research initiatives including The Change Exchange (a collaborative working with low and middle-income countries) and The Health Psychology Exchange (formed in response to Covid-19). She has published extensively, with 88 research outputs spanning topics from pandemic response to international healthcare workforce development.
As an educator, she previously led behavioural and social sciences education for undergraduate medical students and currently chairs the MBChB curriculum committee. Her methodological expertise includes mixed methods research, scale development and testing, and systematic reviewing. She actively supervises undergraduate and postgraduate students while developing international partnerships through her Associate Dean role.
