Luciana Moller is an Associate Professor of Marine Biology at Flinders University's College of Science and Engineering. She leads the Cetacean Ecology, Behaviour, and Evolution Lab and serves as Deputy Head of the Molecular Ecology Lab. Her roles include Course Coordinator for the BSc in Marine Biology and Higher Degree Advisor for the Natural Sciences Program. She has held international research positions, including at Yale University and Macquarie University.
- Education: PhD in Environmental Studies (Macquarie University, 2001), BSc in Oceanography (Rio Grande University, Brazil, 1993)
Her research focuses on marine mammal behavior, molecular ecology, and conservation, with a particular emphasis on cetaceans. Key projects include studying dolphin demographics in urban estuaries, blue whale population genetics, and marine park connectivity. Moller is an Associate Editor of Behavioural Ecology and Sociobiology and a member of the IUCN Cetacean Specialist Group.
Recent articles highlight her work on pygmy blue whale diving behavior, dolphin population trends, and conservation genomics. She has advised students on molecular ecology and conservation management projects involving dolphins and sea turtles. Moller's labs collaborate globally on marine biodiversity and ecosystem resilience.
