Assoc Prof Luciana Möller is an Associate Professor at Flinders University's School of Biological Sciences, where she co-leads the Molecular Ecology Lab (MELFU) and directs the Cetacean Ecology, Behaviour and Evolution Lab (CEBEL). Her research spans molecular and behavioral ecology, focusing on the evolutionary biology of whales and dolphins across intra-population, inter-population, and biodiversity scales.
- Education: PhD (Environmental Studies, Macquarie University, 2001); BSc (Oceanography, Universidade do Rio Grande, 1993)
At the intra-population level, she investigates social evolution and mating systems in dolphins and toothed whales. Inter-population studies examine genetic structure divergence and connectivity driven by oceanography and coastal geography. Her biodiversity-level work includes phylogenetic relationships, hybridisation, and species discovery. CEBEL projects address anthropogenic impacts, habitat use, and population trends for conservation management.
Recent publications highlight her work on dolphin social networks, speed restriction zones for marine protection, and genetic markers for cetacean conservation. She also contributes to marine policy, genetic differentiation in fisheries-impacted species, and kinship dynamics in dolphin populations.
Lab affiliations include Flinders University's Molecular Ecology Lab (MELFU) and Cetacean Ecology, Behaviour and Evolution Lab (CEBEL).
