Gill Braulik

Gill Braulik is a Lecturer and Senior Research Fellow in the School of Biology at the University of St Andrews. She is a Marie-Curie Fellow at the Scottish Oceans Institute and a former Pew Marine Fellow (2013-2016). Her research focuses on marine mammal conservation, with emphasis on endangered river dolphins in Asia and the Indian Ocean. She leads global initiatives like the IUCN Cetacean Red List Assessments and Important Marine Mammal Area (IMMA) designations. Her work addresses threats such as dam impacts on freshwater dolphins and blast fishing in Tanzania.

• Education: PhD in Conservation Ecology (2012), BSc (1993), both from the University of St Andrews.

Research interests include river dolphin ecology, cetacean biodiversity, and spatial conservation planning. Key contributions include taxonomic revisions of South Asian river dolphins and global cetacean conservation status assessments.

Her recent publications highlight trends in cetacean strandings, IMMA effectiveness, and population dynamics of humpback dolphins. Awards include the Marie-Curie Fellowship and Pew Marine Fellowship.
