Luc Rouban is a CNRS Research Professor at Sciences Po Paris' Center for Political Research (CEVIPOF), specializing in the sociology of elites and democratic transformations in France and Europe. His current research focuses on political trust, French state reform, and decentralization.
His research interests center on public administration, political sociology, and democratic legitimacy, with particular expertise in French political institutions, elite behavior, and voter psychology. Recent work analyzes the rise of populism, civil service voting patterns, and the erosion of political trust through the Baromètre de la confiance politique project.
As a leading scholar in French political science, Rouban serves on the editorial board of Public Management Review and the Palgrave Foundations of Government and Public Administration series. His publication trends reveal deepening analysis of democratic crisis, with increasing focus on subjective social status, biological conservatism, and the political effects of digital platforms since 2022.
His advisory roles include directing the Baromètre de la confiance politique research program, which conducts annual surveys tracking French political attitudes through CEVIPOF's electoral archives. Current grant-funded work examines decentralization reforms and their impact on state-citizen relations.
Rouban operates within CEVIPOF's institutional framework, collaborating with researchers across Sciences Po's political science ecosystem including the CIVICA European partnership for social science research.
