Romain Lachat is an Associate Professor at the Center for Political Research (CEVIPOF) at Sciences Po, Paris, and co-holder of the CÉRIUM-FMSH Chair in Global Governance with Ruth Dassonneville. He joined CEVIPOF in 2016 after roles at Pompeu Fabra University (Barcelona) and visiting positions at the University of Montreal and New York University. He holds a PhD from the University of Zurich (2004) and a Habilitation à Diriger des Recherches from Sciences Po (2019).
His research focuses on comparative electoral behavior, political cleavages, and institutional impacts on representation. Key themes include the transformation of political cleavages, issue dynamics in voting, and electoral systems' effects. He co-leads the Political Behaviour track in Sciences Po's Master of Political Science.
Research Interests: Electoral behavior, public opinion, political representation, electoral systems, political psychology, and globalization's political consequences.
Recent Work: His publications explore European electoral participation, French presidential elections, and institutional effects on competition. Notable studies include the decline of religious cleavages in Switzerland and the role of new parties in shaping voter preferences.
