Dr. Lowell Bautista is Associate Professor at the University of Wollongong's School of Law and researcher at the Australian National Centre for Ocean Resources and Security (ANCORS). He holds law degrees from the University of the Philippines (BA, LLB), Dalhousie University (LLM), and University of Wollongong (PhD).
His expertise encompasses territorial/maritime disputes, particularly in the Asia-Pacific region with focus on South China Sea conflicts, Philippine maritime claims, and ocean governance frameworks. Research addresses legal dimensions of maritime autonomy, underwater cultural heritage protection, and piracy countermeasures.
Editorial roles include Associate Editor for Marine Policy and Executive Editor for Asia Pacific Journal of Ocean Law and Policy. He has consulted for Australian/Philippine government agencies on maritime security and resource management.
