Louise Marshall is an Associate Lecturer in Sound Arts at the London College of Communication, part of the University of the Arts London. She teaches on the BA (Hons) Sound Arts and Design and MA Sound Arts programs, while also serving as a first-year tutor for BA students.
Her research explores listening practices in sound art and music, framed through methodologies such as psychoanalysis, oral history, and feminist theory. Her PhD at CRiSAP focused on Deep Listening and representation of female composers, leading to the concept of the sonic artefact. She later expanded this research as a technē Innovation fellow at the Wellcome Collection, examining vocality in post-war polio patients.
Writing and Publications: Under the name Louise Gray, she contributes to publications like The Wire and has a forthcoming chapter on female composers and technology in the Cambridge Companion to Women Composers (2021). She is currently working on a journal article analyzing Éliane Radigue's acoustic works.
