Louise Black is a Research Fellow at the Manchester Institute of Education, University of Manchester, specializing in adolescent mental health and psychometrics. Her work focuses on developing measurement tools for social media use and mental health, particularly through the #So.Me project. Prior roles include contributions to the #BeeWell study and the Good Behaviour Game trial. She holds a PhD in Mental Health Measurement from the University of Manchester (2022), following a career as a music teacher.
Her research interests include psychometrics, adolescent mental health epidemiology, wellbeing measurement, and the impact of minority stress on LGBTQ+ youth. She has co-authored over 16 peer-reviewed articles, including studies on social media’s role in adolescent wellbeing and longitudinal mental health disparities.
Collaborations span interdisciplinary teams, with recent projects addressing neighborhood effects on adolescent loneliness and the validation of mental health screening tools. Her work aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals targeting health and well-being (SDG 3) and inclusive education (SDG 4).
