Louise A Koelmeyer is an Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Health Sciences at Macquarie University, where she also directs the Australian Lymphoedema Education, Research, and Treatment (ALERT) Centre. Since 2023, she has led academic initiatives within the department, focusing on teaching, research, and community engagement. Her clinical expertise spans over 30 years in breast cancer rehabilitation and lymphoedema management. She holds a BAppSc(OT) from the University of Sydney (1990) and a PhD from Macquarie University (2021).
Her research emphasizes innovative lymphoedema management, including conservative treatments, surgical interventions, and personalized care. Key projects involve bioimpedance spectroscopy, indocyanine green lymphography, and comparative studies of lipoedema and lymphoedema. She has led 10+ projects since 2014, including a landmark randomized trial on lymphoedema prevention.
Notable awards include the Excellence in Teaching Prize (2022), Lighthouse Program Award (2022), and multiple recognitions for research innovation. Louise supervises graduate students in lymphoedema research and co-developed Macquarie’s Graduate Certificate in Lymphoedema Management. She actively participates in international collaborations and has published 74+ peer-reviewed articles.
