Lorraine Smith

Lorraine Smith serves as Associate Head of School for Student Success and Academic Portfolio Lead for Secondary and Further Education within the School of Education at the University of Greenwich's Faculty of Education, Health and Human Sciences. She joined the university in 2013 after extensive classroom experience and has shaped science teacher training programs while advancing student success initiatives.

Her educational foundation includes a Post Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) from Durham University, followed by international teaching experience in Japan and progressive leadership roles in UK secondary schools where she rose from science teacher to head of department.

Dr. Smith specializes in Science Education and Teacher Training, with core expertise in PGCE Secondary Science curriculum design, Subject Knowledge and Pedagogy development, and Professional Studies for educators. Her work emphasizes practical classroom strategies and subject-specific enhancement for science teachers, particularly through the Subject Knowledge Enhancement courses she teaches.

She actively supports teacher professional development through university leadership roles and previously facilitated Continued Professional Development via the Institute of Physics Teacher Network Scheme during her secondary school career, demonstrating sustained commitment to elevating science education standards.
