Lorraine Gaunt is a Lecturer in Teacher Education and Course Director for the Bachelor and Master of Teaching (Secondary) programs at Charles Sturt University's School of Education, based in Port Macquarie. With over 25 years of experience as a Secondary Mathematics, Science, and Special Education teacher, including roles as Head of Special Education Services in Queensland secondary schools, she brings extensive practical knowledge to her academic position. She has 12 years of experience in the tertiary education sector, having previously worked at the University of Southern Queensland and the University of Queensland.
Dr. Gaunt completed her PhD in 2020, with research focusing on mathematics and numeracy for adults with Intellectual Disability. Her current research interests include supporting numeracy development, promoting inclusive mathematics education in secondary classrooms, and improving the wellbeing of individuals with disabilities.

Her work frequently examines how to make mathematics accessible to all students through innovative teaching approaches and specialized tools.

Dr. Gaunt teaches across multiple programs, including initial teacher education focusing on primary and secondary mathematics curriculum and pedagogy, as well as inclusion and diversity subjects. She also contributes to the Masters of Inclusive Education program with a focus on mathematics difficulties. Her current teaching includes ESS516: Mathematics Difficulties: Prevention and Intervention and EMM418: Mathematics Content and Pedagogy.
She leads two significant research projects: the Mastery Schools Research Project (investigating alternative delivery models for students with learning difficulties in collaboration with University of Southern Queensland and South Australian Department of Education) and the Wellbeing Research Project (examining school staff understanding of wellbeing programs). She serves as Chair of the Wellbeing and Mental Health Research Australia network.
