Christine Packer is a Senior Lecturer in Mathematics Education at the University of Chester, affiliated with the School of Education in the Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences. She serves as the PGCE Secondary Mathematics subject lead and Programme Leader for the PGCE Secondary Programme. Her academic credentials include an MA in Educational Practice (Mathematics) and ongoing doctoral studies in Education. She collaborates with the National Centre for Excellence in the Teaching of Mathematics (NCETM) and leads workshops for a local maths hub to enhance mathematics teacher training. Professionally, she is treasurer of the Association of Mathematics Teacher Educators (AMET) and a member of the British Society for Research into Learning Mathematics (BSRLM).
Her research focuses on early career teachers' navigation of mathematics classrooms and leveraging education research to improve teaching practices. She emphasizes accessibility and inclusivity in mathematics education through teacher training initiatives. Teaching responsibilities include the PGCE Secondary programme, MA Education (Mathematics Education) modules, and dissertation supervision. Notably, she has held roles such as PGCE Secondary Programme Lead (2019–2021) and Mathematics Subject Knowledge Enhancement Course Lead (2015–2018).
Her professional background includes 7 years as a mathematics teacher in secondary schools and a decade as a Chartered Accountant at KPMG prior to academia. She holds certifications as a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA) and Chartered Accountant (ACA).
