Kathryn Clarke is a Senior Lecturer in Primary Mathematics Education at the University of Chester, UK. She holds dual roles as Programme Leader for the PGCE Primary and PGCE Primary/Early Years Programmes, focusing on Core and Lead School Partner routes. Her work emphasizes preparing future primary school teachers to excel in professional, academic, and subject-specific competencies while maintaining student wellbeing. She oversees the rigorous PGCE Programme, ensuring students achieve Level 7 credits and develop reflective teaching practices.
Her research explores beginning teachers' perceptions of teaching mathematics, addressing challenges in building confidence and positivity towards the subject. She investigates strategies to enhance primary teachers' effectiveness in math education, particularly for those with negative past experiences.
Kathryn teaches on the PGCE and BA Primary Education with QTS programmes. She has held roles such as Interviews and Recruitment Coordinator (2015–2018) and PGCE Primary Programme Leader (2018–present) at the University of Chester’s Initial Teacher Education (ITE) department. Her expertise spans teacher training, curriculum design, and pedagogical strategies in primary education.
