Lorenzo Guasti is a Technologist and Researcher at the National Institute for Documentation, Innovation, and Educational Research (INDIRE) under Italy's Ministry of Education. He leads the Maker@Scuola project, exploring the impact of maker culture and technologies like 3D printing in Italian schools, particularly in early education. His work emphasizes collaborative, hands-on learning methodologies such as the Think-Make-Improve cycle, which fosters creativity, problem-solving, and resilience among students.
Guasti’s research focuses on integrating innovative technologies into teaching, including hydroponic systems, blockchain education, and outdoor learning environments. He has expanded the Maker@Scuola initiative from 8 to over 100 schools nationwide, promoting systemic adoption of maker pedagogy. His contributions include co-designing classroom activities with teachers and publishing findings in peer-reviewed journals and books like Maker@School – 3D Printers in Kindergarten.
Key projects include Building Toys with a 3D Printer (since 2014), which targets nursery schools, and the development of tools like dSerra for hydroponic education. Guasti collaborates internationally via the EUN-European Schoolnet, advancing educational innovation across Europe. His work highlights the importance of adaptability and ethical values in preparing students for future challenges.
