Loren Schwerd is an Associate Professor of Sculpture at Louisiana State University’s College of Art & Design, where she has taught since 2005. She holds a BFA in Studio Art from Tulane University and an MFA in Sculpture from Syracuse University. Her practice focuses on repurposing found materials and traditional craft techniques to explore the interplay between organic and synthetic matter, often addressing ecological and socio-political themes.

Her research interests include environmental art, material transformation, and the dialogue between nature and human industry. She has received awards like the LSU Outstanding Teacher Award (2012) and the Southeastern College Art Conference Fellowship (2001).
Public art projects include Arcadia (2017), a library installation in Columbia, SC, and Cloaks (2001), part of a 9/11 memorial. Her work has been featured in FiberArts Magazine, Artistry in Fiber, and documentaries like City of Memory.
Teaching specialties include 3D design and sculpture, with a focus on integrating environmental and material concerns into pedagogy.
