Loren Jones

Dr. Loren Jones serves as Associate Chair of Teacher and Leader Research and Education (TLRE), Associate Clinical Professor, and Coordinator for the Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) Certification Programs at the University of Maryland, College Park. She is affiliated with the Department of Teaching and Learning, Policy and Leadership within the College of Education. She holds a Ph.D. from the University of Miami (2018).

Her research focuses on teacher preparation for multilingual learners, literacy instruction, and technology integration in education. She teaches courses such as Foundations of Literacy and Biliteracy Development, Methods of Teaching ESOL, and Internship in Education. Recent scholarship appears in TESOL Journal, Computers & Education, and Journal of Language, Identity, and Education.

Dr. Jones has received multiple awards, including the Excellence in Scholarship Award (2024, 2022) from the College of Education. Her work emphasizes culturally sustaining practices and innovative uses of technology to support multilingual learners. She has co-PI'd grants totaling over $250,000 for initiatives like bridging theory/practice in teacher training and reimagining internship experiences.

Her advising and grant activities include leading the Yearlong Teacher Internship (YTI) Workgroup for the Maryland PDS 2025 Project and co-developing immersive learning technologies for preservice teachers. She actively contributes to professional communities through conference presentations and collaborative research groups.
