Lloyd Gruber

Lloyd Gruber is an Associate Professor (Education) and MPA Programme Director at the School of Public Policy, London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE). Formerly the Dean of LSE’s Institute of Public Affairs, he specializes in international and comparative political economy, globalization, global governance, and education policy in developing countries. His work bridges theoretical analyses of power dynamics in international relations with practical policy implications.

Key research interests include the political economy of trade and development, inequality, and the role of education in socio-economic systems. Gruber’s notable contributions include his book *Ruling the World: Power Politics and the Rise of Supranational Institutions* (Princeton 2000), which critiques conventional cooperationist theories of international institutions. His current projects explore the politics of education systems in developing nations and the distributive impacts of globalization.

Gruber has held visiting roles at the Brookings Institution and MIT, and prior to LSE, taught at the University of Chicago’s Harris School of Public Policy. He is recognized for innovative pedagogical approaches, such as challenging assumptions about fair trade policies and emphasizing evidence-based public policy analysis.
